How Much Water Does an Aerogarden Hold?

How often to Change Water in Aerogarden

A point to be noted in Aero gardening is that it requires a higher level of water and frequent water changes.  We recommend changing the old water with fresh water every 4-6 weeks to keep your plants healthy.

What Type of Water to Use in Aerogarden?

Water becomes so crucial as the main base of supply for you when you are engaged in the cultivation field. That importance even becomes further in the case of systems like an Aerogarden, which has no such design of natural water supply that happens in the traditional methods.

That is because rainwater and the route of water coming from rivers, canals, etc., nourish the plants in a traditional system. Often, you may see many plants continue to die even after a session of intense care. Although all the plants do not pass, there always remains plenty of varieties that cannot anymore withstand in your Aerogarden.

Distill water

Impure water or water from traditional sources contains a considerable level of unknown and known minerals. The additional of those minerals with the existing components of the nutrients combine to imbalance the desired mineral content of the plants. Thus, the ideal pH level is hampered within your garden, which makes the sensitive plants suffer.

To solve the problem, go for rainwater, also known as distilling water, with zero in mineral contents. As a result, a neutral condition is maintained due to the supply of rainwater, and soon, the balance of the garden can be brought back under control.

But, as you see, some of the plants are still living without any problems because of the tendency of those plants to live in messed-up nutrient content. Those plants fall on the criteria of all those varieties that survive with the mercy of nature and don’t require any additional care.

Water with the ppm level between 60-120

Waterless than 60 ppm is considered soft water. At the same time, anything above 120 ppm is considered hard. Both hard and soft water is not suitable for your plants as they will mess with the mineral content of your garden.

So, water that comes into your home after softening should not be supplied to the garden. Well, water should also be avoided as it may have imbalanced minerals. In addition, water from ponds and rivers can act as hard water and thus should be given up.

What Should Be the Water Level For the Reservoir of Your Aerogarden?

Along with the type and amount of the water, the water level in the reservoir also matters!

Water in the Aerogarden holds, is preserved, and contained within the reservoir. The level of the water inside the pool has many roles to play. For example, plants in the garden live with the mercy of both the water and nutrients content.

Nutrients are dissolved in water inside the reservoir. Therefore, the nutrients remain in dilute form due to the presence of water. Plants absorb these diluted nutrients through their root hairs in the process of osmosis.

Under such a process, nutrients move from higher concentration into the lower concentration zone, which is ultimately inside the plants. This absorption occurs through a semi-permeable membrane that remains within the roots.

The point of consideration here is that plants fail to absorb nutrition when a lack of water emerges. This is because plants soak up the water first without absorbing the nutrients. As a result, nutrients gather in the reservoir as a solute, which is later failed to soak in the process of osmosis.

Therefore, you need to level up your reservoir with a much higher water content than the nutrients.

It is suggested to top up the reservoir with water to avoid obstacles in the path of nutrients absorption.
